Advocacy 2014 Archive

Great libraries don’t just happen. They are products of a community that understands their mission, uses their resources and is willing to advocate on their behalf. We invite you to become informed and then get involved.

Broward Days

Will Weatherford Broward Days is an independent non-profit group devoted to legislative advocacy of public policy issues. For nearly 20 years this group has served to unite diverse business and community members on a unified legislative agenda to benefit Broward County.

Broward Days’ theme for 2013-2014, "Bringing Tallahassee to Broward." Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford was featured at a complimentary reception on October 21, 2013, hosted by Nova Southeastern University. Other Broward County Florida Cabinet members were present to meet and interact with the public, as well. Our Friends oranization was represented by Barbara Correll and Alison Rials.
Broward County Budget Hearings

The Broward County budget hearings for the fiscal year 2014 began September 10 with a second one scheduled for September 24. These meetings provide public input on each of the divisions within the County government. Barbara Correll and Mimi Hershenson represented the Friends at the first hearing but did not speak. The library budget remained intact and was the same as for fiscal year 2013. Since there were no foreseeable issues, representation at the second hearing was not necessary.
