Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
National Library Week

The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was held on Saturday, April 16th, on the sixth floor of the Main Library. Approximately 30 teen and adult volunteers received certificates of appreciation and were treated to a delicious catered luncheon. Volunteer activities in the Library range from teens serving on the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) who help to plan interesting programs for other teens to adult volunteers who choose to teach computer literacy, run Spanish language classes, and offer citizenship test preparation. Other volunteers staff the welcome desk on the second floor, work in the Friends book room or assist with "First Friday" book fairs. All volunteers were given a beautiful flowering plant to take home. The Fort Lauderdale Friends of the Library appreciate all volunteers and welcome anyone who would like to join their ranks.

National Library Week, April 10-16
National Library Week

On April 5, Jane Nighbert and Barbara Correll attended the monthly Fort Lauderdale City Commission meeting to receive a proclamation from Mayor Seilor recognizing National Library Week in our local area. The proclamation is on display at Main Library and is a wonderful reminder of how important our libraries are and how much they contribute to the community.

National Library Week Tree

The library also celebrated National Library Week, April 10 - 16, with information and give-aways from the Friends of the Library group. Many visitors to the library wrote their thoughts - about how libraries transform their lives, the theme of this year's activities - on small paper butterflies. These are on display on a wall with a "tree" on the 3rd floor near the teen area. Do take a moment to visit when you're in the library.

National Library Week

Terry and Chic Holliday (above) stopped by the Fort Lauderdale Friends table to talk about how the library has helped them "take flight" and to post a butterfly on the writer's wall. Libraries all over the country are celebrating National Library Week and the community enrichment they offer. Both the city of Fort Lauderdale and Broward county issued Proclamations encouraging participation
